W3 Company - Nominal Roll

with known email addresses linked   -   but see notes about source & accuracy

Explanation of additional comments:
This W3 company nominal roll includes people who had deployed with another subunit on an earlier tour of duty (TOD).  This can be assumed for people shown as 161 Bty, or with rifle companies (V or W) not shown as V4 or V5. Personnel shown as "also V4" were likely to have been reinforcements to V4 who had not completed a 12 month TOD in Vietnam when V4 departed from the theatre & who moved to W3 to do so.  Likewise personnel shown as "also V5" are likely to be reinforcements posted to W3 who had not completed a 12 month TOD when W3 departed theatre in November 1970 & who moved to V5 company.  Some personnel were also posted out of W3 before their TOD was finished for administrative reasons.

The W3 pre-deployment photo is here [link also from each page].

KIA   - killed in action
WIA  - wounded in action & returned to duty at some later date, including after return to New Zealand
DOW - died of wounds some time after the wound was inflicted
MID  - mentioned in despatches, click to see citation

Notes on Nominal Roll  -  send corrections or further details here
This list is compiled from six sources, each has inaccuracies or omissions & assistance is welcomed in correcting this.  The six sources are:
1.  the Flinkenberg List, created by Capt C. Flinkenberg RNZA in 1972 from available records & edited again in 2002 by Jack Hayes as a EVSA project.  Link courtesy NZPFOCA website.  The list is made 'official' and searchable at this link www.vietnamwar.govt.nz/
2.  the EVSA nominal roll provided for the 2005 W3 Reunion which contains latest known locations of our comrades.
3 & 4.  the ANZAC battalion histories of 6 & 2 RAR/NZ ANZAC Battalions which include nominal rolls.  These rolls can show people in another subunit, have inaccuracies in spelling or rank, or omit an individual altogether.
5.  Officer Commanding notes.
6.  peer observations or notes.

In some cases the W3 nominal roll needs further detail of which element an individual served in while in Vietnam, & where the individuals name & present location is missing or inaccurate.

Further detail of our members who joined as reinforcements & moved to another sub-unit on our return from Vietnam is sought, as is those members who served in NZ Component, or another company of the battalion during the W3 tour of duty who would like to be associated with W3 at reunions or be on the W3 email list.  Associates are here

Next of kin of deceased members are welcome to register their email address against their serviceman's name to ensure future contact is available.
